Dayton’s Baked Crackers

img_7333

In 1921, The Green and Green Company gave birth to their new product in Dayton, Ohio.  This product, pictured above, was one inch long and one inch wide and made of 100% real cheese.  But is the catchphrase “Made of 100% Real Cheese” misleading?  Along with the cheese, these delicious squares also contain flour,  vegetable oils, salt, and other spices.  There is no real nutritional value.  The amount of fat and sodium in these little squares is outrageous. In one serving, approximately a handful, there are about 150 calories, 8 grams of fat (2 grams saturated fat), and 230 milligrams of sodium.  That is a tenth of your suggested daily intake of salt and 18% of your daily recommended fat intake.

Cheez-Its are known for their variety of flavors.  Some of these include extra toasty, cheddar jack, hot and spicy, Cheez-It Grooves, and Duoz.  While these are a nice grab and go snack, they are not very healthy for you.  Too many could cause long-term effects such as weight gain, heart disease, and diabetes.  But don’t let this scare you.  These are typical side effects of most processed foods, not just Cheez-Its.  In all, these very tasty and addicting snacks are not very nutritious for you.  But, if you eat them in moderation, you will be just fine.
