National Honor Society

What does it take to be a part of National Honor Society?  There are certain criteria that have to be met in order to be a member.  You have to display the four pillars of the chapter.  These include leadership, character, service, and scholarship.

A leader is defined as a person who takes command over or organizes a group of people.  To be a leader means more than to tell everyone what to do.  It means that you are a good role model and everyone can look to you for help.  There are different ways to be leaders.  For example, president Trump is the leader of our nation.  But there is also the type of leader like the captain of the basketball team.

Character and service kind of go together.  To have good character means to have good morals, follow the rules, and have honesty, integrity, and have good behavior.   Service is just as it sounds.  Communities and businesses are always looking for volunteers.  Most organizations are based on people giving up their free time to help other people.  In order to be a good volunteer, you have to have good character and morals to make this possible.

Scholarship is the fourth pillar required for National Honor Society.  The ones that have the good grades are often the good leaders of the class.  The minimum cumulative grade point average allowed for this year is a 3.5.  But, in the next year, the standards are likely to rise to 3.6.

In National Honor Society, we do more than helping out around the school and community, we display leadership in the school along with the good character in and outside of class.  Pictured above is Nate Coil as he participates in the National Honor Society induction of its new members. The new inductees of 2017 display these four pillars.  These people include Braylyn Hovest, Kacey Dulle, Hayley Heitmeyer, Olivia Nunez, Cole Rieman, Bailee Sickmiller, Ruby Hardy, Hannah Goedde, Carlee Sieker, Claire Rigel, Jala Hazelton, Reece Mangas, and Allison Garcia.  Congratulations to the fourteen newest members and to the future chapters!
