Birkenstocks

sandals

A shoe that was popular back in the day seemed to make a come back in today’s style. Birkenstocks were started all the way back in 1774.  They were started by Adam Birkenstock in Frankfurt, Germany. At first, the company began making shoes not sandals, surprisingly. The goal was to have a shoe that the insoles were contoured to fit and support the foot. Their first shoes were typically all flat footed soles. Carl Birkenstock joined the family company in the sixties, and then they started to make the sandals.

My own mother has told me that she used to wear Birkenstocks back in her high school years. It was a type of  shoe that was in style back then and now is a sandal seen around now. There are many different types of Birkenstocks. For example, they come in two strapped, three straps, two straps rapped around on the toe, etc. The shoe became a huge hit because of how the shoe fits to your foot. They seem like they would be a hard bottomed shoe, but they really begin to form to your foot the more you wear them. If you don’t have a pair, I suggest that you go and get yourself a pair like the ones pictured above!
