Gatorade or Water?


It is important for athletes to be hydrated during their sporting events. Dehydration causes your body to cramp up due to your muscles being deprived of electrolytes. So, what is better for your body, water or Gatorade? Gatorade is always advertised as being the best thing for you to drink during athletics. However, water helps to regulate body temperature. It also helps to lubricate your joints and helps them to move more smoothly. Water helps to transport nutrients to your body which gives a person more energy. Specialists recommend that athletes drink around 2 liters of water depending on their training regimen.

Although water is good for your body and needed for a person to live, water is not the best choice when it comes to intense athletics. Water does provide energy and nutrients to the body but not as fast as Gatorade can. Therefore, Gatorade would be a better choice for athletes who are participating in a high activity level sport. Gatorade replenishes your body faster because of the carbs that it contains. Gatorade also has a lot more electrolytes than water which allows the body to absorb them faster. However, since Gatorade does contain quite a bit of salt and sugar, it is a good idea to drink water along with the Gatorade to help quench your thirst.
