Throwback TV…Laverne and Shirley

laverne

When some of our parents and teachers were younger, there were many different shows on. Some were focused on one person, some two, and others on a group. One show that was popular in the late ’70s and early ’80s was Laverne and Shirley.

Laverne and Shirley ran from 1976-1983, going through 8 seasons. The show is about two single ladies who room together in the ’50s and ’60s and have many misadventures. Many of Laverne and Shirley’s adventures included their friends Lenny, Squiggy, and Carmine. Students may remember Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams, who played the namesake characters, appearing in episode 17 Sam & Cat (the episode where Sam and Cat needed to change the name of their babysitting business due to it being similar to the name of a ’70s TV show).  Other cast members for Laverne and Shirley include David Lander, Michael McKean, and Eddie Mekka.

Mrs. Douglas, pictured above, says that she always enjoyed watching the show when it was on. She went on to say, “Laverne and Shirley always got in trouble, but then they managed to get themselves out of it and have a happy ending.”
