Why Visit Colleges?

A college visit is your opportunity to get a firsthand view of a college. You can look at a college online or in a brochure, but that will only show you so much. To really get a feel for college, you need to walk around the college campus, sit in on a class, and visit the dorms. A visit also gives you the opportunity to talk to professors, students, or admission counselors to find out about different questions you may have. Pick up any official college materials you see, such as brochures and financial aid forms.

In the end, it’s your decision. Listen to your heart. Do you feel comfortable walking around campus? Do you feel at home? Do you feel comfortable with the students and faculty? Is this what you imagined college to be like? Spending time on a campus helps you to determine whether a college is a good fit. If you know any friends that go to the school you are looking at going to, ask them if you could get a personal tour or stay over for the night in the dorms  to get the full college experience.  No matter what, make sure to think about all aspects of the college when making your decisions.
