Dream Job… Disney Imagineering

Many people have some sort of dream job or a goal of working at a certain place. A lot of people want to work at one of the Disney Parks, even if it’s only during college. Many of us have seen numerous movies and products made by the company, such as the ones pictured above. Among the biggest Disney fans, the “rock stars” of the company are the Imagineers.

Imagineering involves the word that it sounds like: engineering. According to the basic description of it found at https://disneyimaginations.com/about-imaginations/about-imagineering/, Imagineering is “the unique, creative force behind Walt Disney Parks and Resorts that dreams up, designs and builds all Disney theme parks, resorts, attractions, cruise ships, real estate developments, and regional entertainment venues worldwide.” The reason it is called Imagineering is because the goal is to combine imagination with engineering so that they can bring art and science together.

Don Carson, who was an Imagineer from 1985 to 1995, made it clear in an interview that the company will not take just anybody for the job. He was quoted saying, “Imagineering, being the pinnacle of theme park design, doesn’t want to necessarily talk to you until you’ve proven that you know what they do.” He also said that you’re less likely to get the job if you’re verbally a huge fan, as they want you there for the job. Carson also said that there are a wide variety of careers that you can go to school for to become an Imagineer, including engineering, architecture, audio, and show design.

Even though it is hard to get this job, it would certainly be an interesting one to have.
