Movie Review: Sing! and Rogue One
Christmas break is the perfect opportunity for movie studios to release some blockbuster hits. Students are off of school and adults have days off work too. Families and friends are getting together for the holidays, so it’s the perfect time to take everyone to the cinema! This year there were two particular movies that were big hits for adults and children alike. The two films are the animated family film Sing! and the Star Wars spin-off Rogue One. I had the opportunity to go see both of these movies over the break, so I can give you a solid review of both of them. I have to warn you, though, some spoilers may follow below!
The first movie I watched was Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. I took my two younger brothers to see it, as we are all avid Star Wars fans. The movie is a spin-off from the usual Star Wars episodes, as it doesn’t deal with the iconic Skywalker characters. However, that didn’t stop us from loving all the new characters featured in this movie! The story is set shortly before the first original Star Wars movie, A New Hope. It follows Jyn Erso and her group of rebels as they battle the evil Empire to steal the plans for an ominous weapon called the “Death Star.” The movie was filled with laughs, fun suspense, amazing characters, and plot twists. It also featured a few great scenes of Darth Vader (pictured above in a movie promotion picture), which everyone was looking forward to. He was only in it for a short time, but the iconic character didn’t disappoint. I give the movie 4 and a half stars out of five. Except for the most sensitive viewers, it’s a good one for the whole family!
The other movie I recently saw was Illumination Entertainment’s Sing! The animated family film is about a koala who wants to save the run-down theater he owns. He decides to host an American Idol-style singing competition. The movie features over sixty popular songs, and I was dancing along to every single one of them! You’ll fall in love with every single one of the contestants! Even though the movie doesn’t offer anything new, I’d still give it 3 out of 5 stars. Go out and see this movie or the one mentioned before! Enjoy a night out with friends and family!
