Who Remembers….Perler Beads?

Perler Beads are the ironing beads you may have made with friends as a kid. It was a very popular and creative activity to do when I was younger, but you may not even have known what they were called. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, I’ll now describe what they look like and how you made the craft. Perler Beads are beads with holes on each end and come in various different colors. You could put the beads on flat, plastic molds shaped like many different things like flowers and animals. The molds (pictured above)had tiny pegs that the beads would go in. Once you made your creation with various different colors and patterns, you would then ask a parent to iron it. The beads would then meld together and you could then take your creation off the mold and stick it somewhere as a magnet or decorate a place.

Whether you gave them a name or not, Perler Beads were considered by many kids to be a favorite art craft during their childhood. It was a memorable activity to pass the time with friends and family. It made me appreciate arts and crafts more and more. Although their popularity has dwindled since my childhood, you’ll still find many of the colorful beads in just about anyone’s house. If you happen to find any, share them with some friends and let the nostalgia begin all over again.
